When Danny Liebowitz approached us, he had been running a sports apparel store on eBay and GoDaddy stores. He was frustrated not only by the lack of flexibility, but by the poor visual presentation of his web stores.
For his new venture into the high end automotive aftermarket, Danny needed a high quality eCommerce presence, at an affordable price. Also, since he is a very busy entrepreneur with little interest in programming or designing pages himself, his site had to be based on a stable, hosted platform that was ultimately very easy to use.
Lucid Path Consulting completed a survey of the client’s needs, and determined that Shopify, a small startup out of Ottawa, Canada, would be the best fit for Danny. Shopify boasts an incredibly modern and well-written shopping cart based on the cutting edge Ruby on Rails programming language. Though Shopify has a more limited feature set than many other carts, it is a very straightforward and easy to use system, ideal for this application.
In record time and on a record budget, Lucid Path set about sourcing pre-designed templates and designs for the site. A beautiful and edgy design was selected for Underground Euros, and was then heavily modified and customized for this specific application. Various custom elements such as product tag browsing, subproduct chart layouts, and universal search were coded and implemented using Shopify’s proprietary “Liquid” scripting language. Furthermore, the CSS of the website was extensively tweaked and customized to ensure a beautiful viewing experience on all desktop and mobile browsers.
The finished product is a website rich in HTML5 and Java pizzazz, without the heavy development budget. Featuring a built-in blog and social media sharing features, it is up to spec with the latest conventions of social web stores. Furthermore, the light footprint of pages speeds up page rendering and decreases bounce rates.
The website is minimalist yet effective, and the client has already noticed a significant uptick in web sales.
